Excerpt
This work studies the interdependencies between the pharmaceutical industry and consumers, and analyzes these interconnections using the example of the contraceptive pill. An academic and creative analysis.
Summary
Philosophy
This marketing concept aims to zoom on the intimate topic of contraceptive treatment, by replying to several questions:
What social aspects and ambivalences are relevant to the use of the contraceptive pill today?
How has the pill developed from pure contraception to a lifestyle drug?
What special marketing and advertising strategies can be identified, for a drug that is subject to advertising regulations, e.g. the Therapeutic Products Protection Act?
What are the limits and opportunities for influencing the design?
Concept Design
In this artistic concept we analyzed the history of the drug, and the extent of the communication strategies around it. To this end, experts such as doctors, practitioners and regular users of the contraceptive pill were interviewed in order to present different perspectives and the ambivalences associated with the drug.
We developed a multimedia traveling exhibition to communicate the results in an interactive audiovisual format. The exhibition combined visual and digital elements to give visitors an in-depth insight into the design patterns of contraceptive dug administration. The conclusions of this work were also documented in a book that provides the results of the study on a printed medium.
Conclusion
A central component of the work was the investigation of advertising strategies for these drugs, which are subject to the German Drug Advertising Act (HWG). We analyzed Design elements - such as the packaging - through the lens of color studies. We also studied videos on platforms such as YouTube, in addition the investigation of apps and chats that support the use of the contraceptive pill.
